ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Finance Associate is a key member of the Finance team, providing administrative and financial processing to ensure a successful recording of transactions. The Finance Associate will assist with preparing and processing entries, monitoring and reconciling account balances, and ensuring documentation requirements are satisfied.

Internews has US offices in Arcata, CA and Washington, DC which support a hybrid workforce with staff working remotely, fully in-office, or partially remote. This is a remote-based role, and candidates based anywhere in the United States will be considered.

DAY-TO-DAY TASKS will include:

  • Assist in the preparation and processing of invoices, journal entries, and cash receipts.
  • Assist in monitoring program accounting and documentation to ensure compliance with funder requirements and Internews' policies and procedures.
  • Assist with audit preparation and compliance, including gathering and organizing supporting documentation and schedules.
  • Assist in month-end close tasks and year-end accrual preparation.
  • Review recode requests for accuracy and load recodes into the accounting system.
  • Assist with project and award monitoring in the accounting system.
  • Reconcile and review reconciliations of certain balance sheet accounts.
  • Assist in monitoring access to projects for corporate credit cards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Required

  • A minimum combined four years of relevant education and/or professional experience. This requirement may be met by:
  • A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a closely related field;
  • An Associate's degree and two years of relevant professional experience; OR
  • Four years of relevant professional experience.
  • Familiarity with computers and computer software including spreadsheets, word processors, e-mail, and accounting systems.
  • Intermediate expertise in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Proven ability to work both independently and as an effective team member.
  • Proven ability to prioritize and handle multiple ongoing assignments.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to set priorities and manage time effectively.

Preferred

Note:Candidates who do not have these preferred qualifications, but who are interested and willing to learn, are encouraged to apply.

  • Nonprofit US Government grant-funded accounting experience.
  • Experience working with remote teams.
  • Proficiency in language(s) other than English.
  • Familiarity with Unit 4 ERP accounting software.
  • Working knowledge of Uniform Guidance 2CFR200.
