Yahoo is a global media and tech company that connects people to their passions. We reach nearly 900M people around the world, bringing them closer to what they love—from finance and sports, to shopping, gaming and news—with the trusted products, content and tech that fuel their day. For partners, we provide a full-stack platform for businesses to amplify growth and drive more meaningful connections across advertising, search and media.

The Yahoo Design Associates Program helps early-career designers develop professional skills in their first 2 years through outstanding resources, coaching and mentorship.

As a full-time product designer, an associate will work with two different teams on challenging projects (for example, working on a consumer-facing app the first year and then rotating to a business-to-business platform in the second year). You’ll work among a positive, encouraging and nurturing team of folks who want to see you grow and succeed.

Throughout the program, you’ll connect with industry-leading designers at companies and agencies around the world. If circumstances permit, you’ll meet in-person, visit our global offices, explore local design communities, and learn new points of view. At the end of two years you’ll be leading projects for some of the biggest products in the company.

Product designers at Yahoo collaborate with partners to define the vision for new features, while owning and driving the craftsmanship for every interaction and visual design detail. Day-to-day, you will:

  • Turn broad, ambiguous user and business challenges into clear, valuable and delightful solutions;
  • Connect user research and data insights to design decisions at every stage of development;
  • Incorporate best practices across multiple platforms and devices;
  • Contribute to a design system that supports design and engineering processes; and
  • Mentor and give feedback with humor, grace and empathy to teammates and cross-functional partners.

You're a phenomenal candidate for the DAP, if you are someone who:

  • Draws on all aspects of product design—information architecture, multi-step flows, motion—to create holistic experiences;
  • Delivers consistent, polished and balanced layouts, through typography, color and visual hierarchy;
  • Uses prototypes as a foundational piece of your design process both to identify appropriate solutions and influence stakeholders;
  • Solves user problems in creative ways that go beyond obvious, expected solutions;
  • Demonstrates high emotional intelligence when interacting with teammates and other co-workers;
  • Presents designs clearly and confidently to facilitate useful feedback while shifting approach based on the audience and desired outcome;
  • Takes initiative and accountability for timelines, deliverables and outcomes;
  • Contributes to the design community both inside your company and beyond; and
  • Desires and takes action to grow professional skills.
  • 1-2 years working in digital product design, have equivalent experience, or be currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program (in design, human-computer interaction or related field) with a graduation date in 2022 or 2023.
  • Portfolio that demonstrates abilities in visual design, interaction design, prototyping and product thinking.
  • Proven history of working within a user-centered design process.
  • Proficiency in software to create design concepts, prototypes, assets and specifications.
  • Skills such as illustration, photography, animation, data visualization, conducting user interviews, front-end programming or data science are a plus!
